Does an Ezine Have to be emailed to be an Ezine?

Author: Lance Winslow

Controversy and chaos have always been the hallmark of the fastest moving sector of the Information Age. Over the last decade a new form of information distribution has made a huge dent in the way humans receive knowledge. The electronic newsletter or magazine commonly referred to as an Ezine has made its debut and the once considered a fad by the print medium industry is now giving it a huge run for its money.

Now a debate as to the true definition of Ezines has hit the scene and debating this subject are several successful entrepreneurs and industry experts including; the top online article submission site owner, the most prolific online writer of all times and several top notched publishers, copywriters and editors. What is the true definition of an Ezine?

Most would have to agree that an Ezine is an electronic magazine or newsletter, which is sent by email to a permission base subscription list of clients. Yet is this definition too limiting? A few people say it is and they point to other industry, government and non-profit sector uses of Ezines or electronic newsletters those groups often call Ezines.

You see many companies in the Franchising Sector have intranets and online networks and they send out electronic newsletters on their system to all their independent business people. The Brokerage industry does too to independent agents and so does Lockheed, Boeing and General Electric. Many Government agencies have employee newsletters, which go out too. And often these newsletters are shared by more than just the company, agency or non-profit, as they are viewed by vendors who have access to the system as well. And all this might lead one to suspect that perhaps a widening of the definition of an Ezine might be considered. Think on this in 2006.
