With a stomach stapling surgery you will note that the surgery involves stapling part of the stomach in order to make it smaller. At the beginning of this surgery the surgeon makes an incision in the abdomen. Then Surgical staples and a plastic band are used to recreate the stomach with a smaller pouch at the top of the stomach. This pouch wont be completely separate from the stomach, but your food will catch in the pouch first and make you feel full sooner. Then once it digests it passes through the small quarter inch opening to the rest of the stomach and on to the smaller intestines. In a stomach stapling the surgeon will create a pouch for you that is between half a cup to a cup so that you dont eat too many calories at a meal before feeling full.

After your surgery you can expect to be in a lot of pain. You will have numerous staples and wounds that are going to need a lot of time to fully heal. Your doctor will give you strong pain medication so it may be necessary to have someone else take care of your day to day business as you wont feel like doing very much for the first five weeks or so after the stomach stapling.

You will spend about two to four days in the hospital if things go well. Many hospitals wont allow you to check out until youve used the rest and passed gas. This is in order for them to make sure that your bowels are working properly. It may take up to five or six months to be able to function normally after your stomach stapling. While it will take up to a full year for your new stomach to settle in so to speak.
