Bio Fuel Tax Incentives Recommended for Gas Station Owners

Author: Lance Winslow

Is it possible to give incentives to gas station owners in order to get them to sell Bio Fuel, Flex Fuels and/or Bio-Diesel? Is there a way to make such Flex-fuels available at most gas stations and if so will people use these new blends?

History has shown that the right government incentives do indeed provide a catalyst to industry to make changes. Now our assumption is build-it, make it available and they will come. Most would agree provided it cost consumers less, is readily available and their car will drive well on it, that people would indeed partake in the more environmentally friendly fuel which was home grown and helped our addiction on foreign oil.

Now then, here are some thoughts; I take a number of Petroleum based Industry Journals and I have been involved in the industry to a limited degree, as well as heavy into franchising and according to the Lundberg Survey 90% of the gas stations are independent dealers or franchised. So I propose giving a one-time tax credit for $40,000 to gas station owners who put in up to 2-pumps which would deliver a blended bio fuel, bio diesel or flex fuel.

Since most actual outlets (gas stations) are franchisees or dealers and owned by individuals; well you bet they want that tax credit. But check you can check those figures if you wish, as some believe that "MOST gas stations are owned by oil companies," not so. So this might be an idea to help us get the flex fuels we need to help us break the addiction on foreign oil. Consider this in 2006.
